De Indispensables

It was a full day of anguish for the duo of Lenny and Thick Lips of De Indispensables when they became unwilling guests of the police on Tuesday September 25.

The Port-Harcourt-based acts, who are planning to relocate to Lagos , were picked up outside the South African embassy in Lagos , after they had gone to collect their passports.

They are up for nomination in two categories at the upcoming Channel O awards holding in South Africa on October 11.

After their arrest on Tuesday, the duo made frantic phone calls and tried to make the policemen explain their offence.’ They wouldn’t tell us anything’, they claim. ‘The officers just dropped us off at Lion building and left us there’.

It is not unusual for police officers, on stop and search operation, to pick up young boys with incriminating documents on them. Sources say they may have detained De Indespensables because of the passports found on them

‘But it was their passports. And they have ID cards showing they are artistes’, says Tonye Ibiam, CEO of their record label. ‘I don’t understand how you can just pick up decent young men without any reason’.

They were released in the late hours of the day, without any charges.
