Harris’ New Hit Puts Him in a Tight Spot
IN Uganda, the R’n'B genre is not much appreciated, but this has not stopped new artistes from adopting the style. In this realm is Harris Mukiibi, the young brother of Tanzania-based Ziggy Dee of the Eno Mic fame.
While on stage, the crooner goes by his first name and sings in English and his native Luganda.
Harris’s album title track, She is So Beautiful a duet with Elysha, another upcoming artiste with whom he wrote the song, is currently doing well on the airwaves but puts the duo in a tight spot.
The song is too much of R’n'B that it does not sound Ugandan! In a time when Ugandan music fans have switched their full attention to Ugandan sounds, this is musical suicide.
Peter Kizito, a presenter at Sanyu FM, says although the song hit number one on the hotly contested East Africa’s Finest countdown on Sanyu, Harris and Elysha’s sounding foreign might ruin their chances of moving forward in Uganda.
