Black Eyed Peas Promise ‘Best Performance Ever’
Setting his foot for the first time on Nigerian soil yesterday night, Taboo, a member of the Grammy Award winning music group, Black Eyed Peas expressed the sentiments of the group, saying he and his colleagues are very happy to be in Nigeria. He promised to give their fans the best show ever.
The group arrived the Murtala Muhammed Inte-rnational Airport, Lagos from Johannesburg on a chartered flight at about 10.30pm last night.
Through with airport formalities, they were ushered into waiting vehicles and taken to a hotel on the Island where they are expected to rest before performing at the concert, between 7pm and 9pm; later today at the THISDAY Centre for Education and the Arts, Lekki-Lagos. The lead car that took the musicians from the airport was a black BMW X5. The four members of the group followed in the next car in a convoy of over 10 vehicles.
Each of the four members of the group; William, Apl.de ap, Taboo; and the only female member of the group-Fergie also have thriving solo careers which makes membership of their band large. Thirty-nine of them arrived for the show today.
Black Eyed Peas is in the country for the Nigerian leg of its global tour promoting the new Pepsi commercial-Black, Blue and You. The show is supported by THISDAY Style magazine and sponsored by Afribank.
William, better known as, Will. i. Am who is apparently the leader of the group sat in the passengers seat in the front of the car; while Taboo, apl.de.ap and Fergie took the back seat. While William concentrated on his phone, trying to send text messages, his friends eargerly clenched their fists and raised victory signs in response to a cluster of fans who surged forward to greet them and take their photographs with their camera phones.
The tour will be presented by Pepsi, in conjunction with the new “Pepsi More” advertising campaign, featuring The Black Eyed Peas. In fact, “Pepsi More” is a promotional single made just for the new Pepsi spot.
Having traversed global entertainment circles, the grammy-award winning Black-Eyed Peas has undoubtedly become a global phenomenon.
Nigerian audiences are familiar with its 2003 release, “Elephunk”, which was a breakthrough album for The Black Eyed Peas, vaulting them to a level of success unparalleled by any other hip-hop group.
Many fans who will storm the Black Eyed Peas concert today expect to see them re-enact the magic that has made them one of the most sought after groups in the world today.
