I’ll Soon Release Hot, New Album - Rikky Bent
Following recent calls and pressure from her teeming fans, melodious songster and widely traveled sensational dancer, Rikeino Bent, popularly known as ‘Rikky Bent’ has finally opened up on her plans to drop yet another heart-warming album. Weekend Magazine cornered the charismatic star and here are the juicy details.
Multi-talented singer Rikeino Bent needs no introduction to music enthusiasts in Nigeria. Her debut album ‘This Race’ was released amid much hoopla and raised a record sum of money when it was being launched at the Ladi Kwali Hall at the Abuja Sheraton close to two years ago. The singer, who is of Bachama extraction from Adamawa State, told Weekend Magazine why she seemingly fell off the radar.
Explaining why she has not been heard of or seen often these days and what her next move is, she said her absence from regular public functions and social circles is due to her busy schedules as a student of Communication and Multimedia in an American university here in Nigeria.
“I have to go to school,” she told Weekend Magazine. “Higher education is the bedrock of any society and as a woman one should be better equipped to face the challenges of life with a good level of sound education. I believe that natural talent can be boosted by higher and relevant education.” Asked about how she is coping with the hustle and bustle of school, she smiled and replied: “Schoolwork may be cumbersome but I am focused on my studies at the moment. However, between studies and rest, I still find time to write my songs and rehearse.”
Rikeino’s outstanding performances are quite many, but some of the most memorable ones include her electrifying performance at her album launch and the one she gave specially to the president and national cabinet of Venezuela when she visited that country.
Rikeino said her fans should keep their fingers crossed adding that the radio and TV stations would soon come alive with her new songs. According to her: “Music is my way of life and I still find time to sing. In fact, I intend to take music to another level. It is not enough just to add a voice to meaningless lines. To my mind, music is a kind of philosophy.” She said that she is of the belief that music should be able to make sense beyond the ordinary and it should be able to teach morals, correct societal ills, mould the mind of youths and set a positive agenda for the society without losing the beauty of sound and rhythm. “I want to make a statement about class and quality in my new album”, she told Weekend Magazine.
Speaking further about working on the new album, which she described as a “serious project” and which has no title yet, Rikky Bent appealed passionately to her fans pleading to be excused a little more from public appearances. “Forgive me, but blame school,” she said smiling. The singer was full of apologies and said that even though she cannot immediately promise a definite date for the release of her new album, “I assure you that you wouldn’t have to wait for too long.” Rikky added that [the album] would create a new standard and heighten the desire of lovers of good music, when it comes out.
Rikeino said she also hopes to use her free time to do some shows, videos and possibly public appearances. “You can’t take away music from life,” she said, nodding thoughtfully. And that, shoulkd be music to the ears of her many, many fans.
