Traditional Jazz Night At National Ballet Centre

Traditional jazz will be the focus of an open-air musical evening being hosted in the grounds of the National Ballet Centre in Harare today.

The event is called Jazz It Up and features the popular Detema Jazz Band, which will perform a range of “trad jazz” numbers for music lovers attending. The concert is being hosted by Reps Theatre, situated adjacent to the National Ballet Centre, and will offer an alternative to the normal Reps theatrical presentations on either the Main Stage or in Theatre Upstairs.

“We have decided to present a quarterly entertainment that is different from our ongoing theatrical ventures and we have decided for this inaugural one to focus on jazz and to make use of the stage that has been in use in the past few weeks for both Starlight Dancing and Brush Up Your Shakespeare,” said Tim Garrard, chairman of Reps.

“Should this prove successful we shall be maintaining this additional entertainment thrust and we shall look at innovative means of doing so in the coming months and years.”

Jazz It Up will run from 4pm top 10pm today and guests are encouraged to bring their own portable chairs, blankets, cushions, picnic baskets and drinks hampers. A wine and beer bar will also be set up at the venue and a food stall will be operational throughout the performance.

“Proceeds from the gate takings will go to Reps and to the Dance Trust of Zimbabwe and will assist both these bodies in carrying out their ongoing tasks and responsibilities in the fields of theatre and dance respectively,” said Mr Garrard.

Tickets will be $1 million, with discounts for Reps members and HIFAmigos booking at The Spotlight in advance.
