Jua Cali Rocks At Steak Out

Thousands of Kenyans flocked Steak Out last Monday night ,instantly turning it into a mini Kenyan district. Reason? One of Kenya’s biggest music stars was in the country on the invitation of Steak Out and Bell Lager. Had the advertising not been by ‘Word of Mouth’ the venue would have broken down.

A couple of artistes came on stage at around 11.30p.m., subjecting the already tired and drunk fans to unintelligible gibberish over background noise. Only gospel star Tickie Tah, tried to save the day. People started wondering whether Jua Cali would even come around considering the entrance fee was just a ‘mere’ Shs3000 that was converted into a beer at the entrance.

Chameleone and part of his Leone Island sobered up the fans with some of their popular songs, and when he introduced Jua Cali, Steak Out was thrown in frenzy. A stampede erupted as some fans tried to get closer to Genge’s finest.

And When Jua Cali got onto stage at around 1.20a.m on Tuesday morning - ending an agonisingly long four hour wait - his image screamed of a musical star ready to take the whole of Africa by storm. No wonder he is one of the two East Africans -the other is Chameleone - to get nominated for this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards. The Kenyans screamed; the Ugandans joined in. East Africa united by the artiste born Paul Nunda.

His energetic performance was punctuated by dialogue with the fans who could have made him feel jealous for singing each line and humming every beat off his songs. Bidi Yangu, Kiasi, Vumila Group, Amii Ruka, Nipeasal, Nikopotea Tena, Kamata Dame had every one dancing and groupies jumping on stage to hug their star.

One girl was overheard screaming obscenities at the bouncer for not allowing her on the stage. At around 2.30a.m, Jua Cali closed his performance his latest hit Kwaheri. It was then time for the fans to indulge in the free flowing Bell Lager.
