PAM Nominees Honoured

LEAST heard of and rarely given opportunity to showcase their music talents, were a section of local artistes at Silk Royale entertaining guests during the Pearl of Africa Music (PAM) Awards nominees bash last week.

The night that saw performances from groups such as Viva, reflected Uganda’s immense music talents. Others like Lady Aisha did more booty shaking than singing to impress the guests.

Bobi Wine and Bebe Cool relaxed in the background, watching the upcoming artistes aiming at “replacing” them when their time to retire comes.

Isaac Mulindwa, the PAM Awards chairman, urged artistes and media personnel to desist from soliciting for votes as had been the case in the past.

He applauded Celtel Uganda and Bell Lager for their commitment in supporting music and the awards, including the biggest of them all - a recording contract with UK’s famed Abbey Road Studios for the Artiste of the Year.

All winners will receive cash prizes of sh1m and a crystal accolade, while Uganda’s Best Male and Female artistes will each bag sh3.5m. Almost tripling that figure will be the Best New Artiste who will walk away with sh10m.

Due to time constraints and the large number of categories, 13 award winners will be read out at a go and will all grace the stage to pick their prizes at the same time.

Now in its fifth year running, the grand event will be held at Lugogo Cricket Grounds on November 3.
