Lucky Dube Succumbs to Death
Reggae musician Lucky Dube was shot dead in a hijacking on Thursday in Rosettenville, Johannesburg police said.
Captain Cheryl Engelbrecht said the incident took place at around 8.20pm when Dube was driving a blue Polo in the Johannesburg suburb.
She said Dube was dropping off his son in the area when he was attacked.
“His son was already out of the car. When he saw what was happening, he ran to ask for help.”
The hijackers were still at large.
The boy was too traumatised to provide police with any information, Engelbrecht said.

Let me first send my condolences to Mr. Dube’s family. second, let me say I’m very dissapointed at south africa with all this crime. It seems as if whenever u watch the news, its always murders,murders & crimes.
and Johannesburg is a piece of garbage too.

I’m still in shock and disbelief. Lucky Dube will always be # 1 to me & millions more around the world. Let’s call a spade a spade:- His death appears to be more of a planned assassination than hijacking. I pray it creates an uproar and ‘righteous discontent’ to the point that the South African Government could no longer overlook insidious acts like these. May his Soul RIP while the souls of those who murdered him in cold blood, be tormented on earth.

yes im so sad! i just proposed on my Telegraph blog that Fifa should boycott the 2010 soccer world cup offer in S.A….4 people just got spreed out by a a guy who got dismissed in a hospital in S.A… this is not more than 2hrs…another murder news!! im really against Fifa hosting the tournament there…..im soooo sad mourning!! Lucky dube is one of the great reggae musician the world has ever seen. May his soul rest in perfect peace!!

Lucky’s departure came as a shock to the SA reggae community. He was not just a South African Rasta but an African Icon. We reggae lovers have lost, he passed just after twelve months after the departure of Jamaican Rastafarian Joseph Hill of Culture. Prince FAR I was killed on his way home, Peter Tosh was also killed and both were assassinations, how could we write off assassination in Luck’s case. May his soul be guided by the mercy of the King of Kings La Hail Selasie I. Jah guide!
