D’Banj Speaks On MOBO Loss To 2face
D’Banj returned to Nigeria on Friday September 12, after he lost to 2Face Idibia at the just-ended MOBO Awards in London.
In a chat with HipHopWorld, the soon-to-be-inducted UN Youth Ambassador for Peace stated: “I was happy but obviously not as happy as I would have been if I had won the award, but I’m still glad that it came to Nigeria.
I supported my brother 2Face, I went on stage with him and everybody saw me. I’m glad I’m a nominee and 2Face, if you look at it, has been nominated since 2005. He’s also been there three times.
This is my first time, so there are many more to come.
“I’m glad it came to Nigeria.
They saw me there; dem know me already. In fact, some people thought I was 2Face (laughing).”
D’Banj has been nominated also in the ‘Best African Artiste’ category for the MTV Europe Awards, which comes off on November 1, 2007.
He expressed confidence that he would pick the award. “It’s the same award 2Face won two years ago; they have said it’s my turn now, so my ‘cocolets’, ‘babylets’, ‘mamalets’ have voted for me, because it’s time.”
The pop star as well stands a chance to pick one or two if not three awards at the forthcoming Channel O Music Video Awards. He’s sitting comfortably in categories like Artiste of the Year, Best African Video and Best Male Video, where his “Why me” single is contending with DJ Jimmy Jatt’s “Style” and De Indispensables.
To crown it all, he’s been pegged to anchor the line-up of activities for the awards this year. Mo Hits artistes’ compilation album would drop on December 1 and D’banj would be leading the crew.
According to him, they are shooting videos and preparing for the album launch of both the VCD and audio CD.
