Kwaito wonder Odirile “Vee” Sento hogged the limelight here during a weekend Zimbabwe Tourism Authority musical concert for good and bad reasons.

Vee, along with South Africa’s Mafikizolo and Ringo Madlingozi, France-based DR Congolese kwasa-kwasa troupe, Extra Musica and a host of Zimbabwean musical groups, performed at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) last Saturday night during the official closing ceremony of the Zimbabwe International Travel Expo, a tourism promotional event that ran from Thursday to Saturday last week.

Zimbabweans, who performed during the gig, christened the “Big Five Concert,” include Cephas Mashakada and Tongai Moyo who has also staged shows in Botswana.

Soon after the beginning of the show in the conference centre of the five-star Rainbow Towers hotel, Vee’s Zimbabwean fans could not wait to see their idol in action. They chanted his name asking the master of ceremonies to usher the Motswana on stage for his first act here since the beginning of the year. Four hours later, Vee got a standing ovation when he was introduced at around 10pm.

He had to turn a clamour for him to play his hit, Taku Taku, which he played last. The pint-sized star played a number of songs, including Go Swa Motho, Chihube and, Sanola, among others. Vee and his group wowed the crowd, with their energetic dancing skills.

The performer also endeared himself to the audience by uttering some words in Shona, the dominant language in Zimbabwe.

“I love you Zimbabwe. Zvichanaka shamwari (It will be fine my friends),” he said drawing cheers from his fans. He brought the house down towards the end of his one-hour performance when he sang Taku Taku. As the HICC went wild, Vee, asked two ladies to come on stage to dance with two of his dancers. Two ladies, including a beauty queen from eastern Manicaland province obliged and that is when all hell broke loose, literally.

His two dancers took the two ladies down on the stage and simulated lovemaking as the women lay. The acts apparently angered the audience, which booed Vee and his group off stage. This was the only blemish on an otherwise five-star outing for the Gaborone-based kingpin.
