M-Lisada Band Marks 10 Years
M-LISADA Brass Band, comprising former street children, recently staged a concert at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel to mark its 10th anniversary. The band played renditions of popular local artistes and world acclaimed musicians, the most captivating of which was Michael Jackson’s Heal the World.
A DVD, which shows the deplorable living conditions of the band members in the slums of Nsambya, was shown.
Amos Arinaitwe, one of the founding members of the band, who is now a successful lawyer and Ronald Kabuye, the 11-year old conductor of the band, also gave their testimonies. The stories made some of the guests shed tears.
The chief guest, Anatoli Kamugisha, the executive director of Akright Projects, offered to build the band a flat with 100 self-contained rooms at Namulanda on Entebbe Road.
He said the house would be completed in two years.
